Tammy Bright (35 years old)
Daughter of Bob Bright
(Pegasus International, Inc.)

Tammy has been a diabetic since high school. She taught school for several years when she came down with serious medical complications. She was hospitalized in May 2002 with congestive heart failure, enlarged spleen, enlarged liver, anemia, impaired kidney functions, and impaired eyesight.

It was determined that she had been infected by a virus that attacked her organs. Shortly after being released from the hospital she fell and broke her pelvis.

Following a slow road toward recovery, she again was hospitalized in February 2003 with congestive heart failure. While in the hospital she experienced total renal (kidney) failure and went totally blind. Eye surgery was performed on both eyes in an attempt to restore her sight with no success.

Friends of her father’s formed the Bright Light Foundation and the first golf tournament and auction were held on her behalf in October 2003. In November 2003 she received a kidney transplant and her health has steadily improved since.

Tammy attended the Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Austin from August 2004 until May 2005. Here she was trained to be able to function as a blind person and to become independent once again. When she completed her schooling in May 2005, she was hired to teach at the Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center. She now lives alone in an apartment in Austin and is teaching other blind students to function on their own.
